Oak Shade was an excellent get away!!!I have been a travel agent for 18 years and obviously have travelledextensively. My family and I went to visit relatives and friends near Biloxiand the 3 bungalows suited our every need and then some. The pics online donot due it justice. We were very impressed with the clealiness. The locationis perfect among the ocean front mansions and right near the beach. Washingtonavenue is about a block from Oak Shade and has shops and eatieries. I highlyreccommens Tater Nut Cafe for doughnuts! Any time we go back we will check tosee if we can stay here as it is our #1 choice.
Staying at Oak Shade was the best decision I made when visiting Ocean Springs. The rooms are beautiful and clean, the location is ideal, and the owner is more than happy to give recommendations on where to visit or answer any questions you may have. She has lived in Ocean Springs for many years and has fascinating stories about numerous landmarks around town.Oak Shade is only a couple blocks from the gulf, so a trip down to the beach or marina is a breeze. It is also very close to visitor’s center for The Gulf Islands National Seashore. This is an excellent stop for nature lovers and gives an excellent overview of the gulf coast from a historical and ecological point of view. Oak Shade is also very close to downtown if you want to visit any of the unique shops or walk the picturesque downtown streets. If you’re looking for excellent breakfast food, Buzzy’s Breakfast Joint will fill you up without emptying your wallet, and The Walter Anderson Museum is a wonderful stop for anyone even remotely interested in art.
My fiancé stayed at this hotel as a child and loved it so we booked and had a wonderful stay ! Walking distance to the beach and local restaurants ! We stayed in the palmetto suites , the children loved it too ! We will defiantly be returning anytime we come to ocean springs ! Thanks Marian for being so kind !
Were celebrating multiple birthdays on a couples weekend and considered our usual trip to New Orleans. Last minute decided on Ocean Springs and could not have made a better decision. The house we stayed in was PERFECT and about a fifth of the cost we would have payed in New Orleans. PLUS we were only three blocks from Government Street and were able to walk to all the shopping, restaurants and bars. And the beach was just a block and a half behind us. Just an awesome atmosphere all the way around and as a lifelong Mississippian I can’t believe we are just now finding out about Ocean Springs and the area we stayed. We are currently planning a trip back down in the fall.
Another stellar stay at Oak Shade B&BThis wonderful B&B setting is so relaxing to visit and enjoy being close to everything in lovely Ocean Springs, MS!! We look forward to our next visitalready! Always clean and comfortable and very peaceful!Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Adventure Seekers, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway
My sisters, our husbands, and our mom spent a family weekend here. Lovely place with comfortable beds and plenty of room. We walked to the beach, played games, sat outside. We were very much pleased with everything. Excellent location. We plan on returning.
The place was clean and beautiful! We had 2 young children in our group along with their parents and it was great to be able to walk to beach and playgrounds. Very close to interesting and delightful downtown Ocean Springs as well. The owner was very helpful and the price very reasonable. Love to go back.
A lovely neighborhood, walking distance to the beach, harbor and parks. Conveniently located to downtown, restaurants and shopping. Accommodations: Screen in porch under a beautiful cascading down, large oak tree. A full equip kitchen over looks shaded deck/landscape side yard. Relaxing living space over looks porch and landscape front yard. The bedrooms were comfortable with TV’s. A bonus - washer/dryer in breeze way!The hospitality from owner was excellent! We will be visiting again next year!
Oak Shade was a VERY nice place to stay!My friend and I were delighted to have the Palmetto Room, a two bedroom suite. It was spotless, nicely decorated, well stocked with whatever we needed and the air conditioning was working perfectly, something that was very important to us with the heat and humidity being what it was.And yay, Wi-Fi worked every time we needed it!(Which is not always the case at other places!)Also, not a single bug found its way into our room. It’s well sealed. There were lots of cute local shops and restaurants around. The photos don’t quite do the Palmetto room justice, it was cuter than it appeared online. The owner was extremely kind and I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a nice clean, well-maintained place to stay as they are passing through!
It is always such a pleasure when we visit Oak Shade in Ocean Springs, MS. My mother started the tradition some years ago and we would always spend 4-days and 3-nights (which was never enough).
This wonderful B&B setting is so relaxing to visit and enjoy being close to everything in lovely Ocean Springs, MS!!We look forward to our next visit already! Always clean and comfortable and very peaceful!
Oak Shade is an outstanding property, hidden in the heart of Ocean Springs, MS. The website does not do the property justice. This is an outstanding property with a home feel with an outstanding property owner that goes above and beyond to make all guests feel welcome. Upon arrival at the property,Marian greeted us with a hug and I felt like we had known each other for a really long time. Marian was so accommodating and made our families mini vacation such an enjoyable experience. Oak Shade has a serenity that makes you feel like you are at home. My family and I will definitely be back. Thank you Marian for making our stay an everlasting memory. Oak Shade is a stellar property with the convenience of all the amenities you could ever need and/or ask for.Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Girls Getaway, Age 55+,Families with Teenagers
The “new” Azalea Room at Oak Shade has already had it’s first birthday, but every time I visit, I appreciate the care and consideration the owner put into it’s design and new amenities. This property is very clean and well-maintained, and the updated bathroom has more storage space for personal items, such as hair dryers, make-up and shaving kits, as well as a deep soaking tub for relaxing at the end of the day. The new floor tiles are non-slip and can be navigated safely even with wet, dripping bathing suits from visiting the beach just one block away. There are new, comfy chairs for watching TV or reading, and the bed is comfortable and cozy. Although, I stay at Oak Shade because it’s friendly to my completing work projects at the same time I am enjoying a quite, laid-back beach community, it is also a great place to stay for more lively activities on the Mississippi Gulf Coast such as the Peter Anderson Festival, Cruisin’ the Coast, concerts at the Coliseum and shows at the casinos. Once you’ve enjoyed Oak Shade’s amenities and convenient location, not to mention the owner’s hospitality, you will go back time after time.
In June of 2014, my best friend and business partner concluded a 30 year childhood dream. Having grown up in Ocean Springs (now based in Los Angeles) we were in need of comfortable, local lodging where our cast and crew could have an excellent place to stay - to rest, to feel well taken care of and to also, have a consummate local experience with full access to downtown Ocean Springs, the parks, the beach, the restaurants and all of the special things that make Ocean Springs what it is. Oak Shade was THE spot and I would recommend it to absolutely anyone - especially film crews and producers who want to deal with someone who is straightforward, professional and honest. Marian was THE best to work with. Friendly, conversational, awesome. The facilities are top notch and include all of the comforts and character of a welcoming home. A fabulous location and total comfort. Stay here. Put people up here. Recommend it to your friends, family, business associates, colleagues. You will NOT be disappointed. Thank you Marian for everything! Chris StrompolosRolling Boulder FilmsLos Angeles, CA
A wonderful location and a fantastic hostess! Who could ask for anything more! In emails, shortly after we reserved her house, we asked Marian if she could suggest a location for our wedding, in Ocean Springs, and also if she might know someone who could marry us. Her reply was “Please have your wedding at Oak Shade and, yes, I know two people who could marry you!” That is the kind of personalized service you receive - when you rent at Oak Shade.Marian went out of her way to make our wedding a wonderful, if simple, gathering. She made her neighbors and B&B guests aware of the potential for extra cars in the neighborhood, invited us to rearrange the patio furniture and decorate as we chose, and even started a fire in the fire pit, so that our guests would not freeze during the 16 minute ceremony... since the evening was a little bit “nippy”. All week, the Main House met all of our needs - perfectly. Comfortable and eclectic, it felt just like home. Like to read? There are bookshelves everywhere and they are filled with a wonderful variety of literature. Want to explore beautiful Ocean Springs? You could not ask for a better location! Two blocks from the beach (you can see it when you walk out the front door) and only four or five blocks from downtown. We walked everywhere... and loved it!
For the past several years I have stayed at Oak Shade when I truly needed rest, nurturing, and a clear mind. This place has become like home to me. No one is there to bother you. There is perfect silence in the rooms. The beds are so comforting. You never want to get out of bed, even though you know, just down the road is the amazing beach or the other way, amazing shopping. The room invites you to heal and rest your weary head. If you have a stressed life, a stressed job, this is the place to find peace. Oak Shade is decorated to nurture one’s soul. If you love books, the collection is awesome. You can always find a wonderful read. If you like the old black and white movies that come on Turner Classic Movies, just turn on the TV and stay up all night watching the great flicks, you can then just sleep all day. The coffee even tastes better here. The air is fresh. It is like a slice of heaven, where you can forget about your cares, the daily grind you leave behind, the troubles of your heart or mind. It is just pure peace and I’ve traveled the whole country and stayed in amazing places, always 5 star majectic palaces. Though my job at times gave me the opportunity to travel and visit and stay in nothing but the best, it is the feeling of home that makes Oak Shade my vacation spot above all others. Your every need is met and in Ocean Springs itself, you will never meet a stranger and always be treated with kindness. Oak Shade offers comfort...comfortable to stay in, but also comfort for the weary. If you need a place to dock, out of storms way, a restful spot is there for you at Oak Shade. I have never found a better healing place. Enjoy, breathe, and take in the spirit of respite. You will leave transformed and loving life!!!
Oak Shade provides a nice getaway for the family who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle. It’s peaceful, located near the beach and still gives you the small town neighborhood atmosphere. Oak Shade has a way of making you feel as if you are a part of their small community. This property is a short drive from more coastline, casino’s and some of the best non-franchise eating establishments. Great seafood.
Oak Shade is a quiet, clean comfortable place to spend a few days or for an extended stay. The owner is a gracious and helpful woman who is very warm and welcoming. She had great ideas for additional sightseeing in Ocean Springs as well as our next stop further down the road. We appreciated the privacy and solitude of our stay in this residential neighborhood. An easy walk to the beach and to the shops.
I travel widely in my work and have stayed at a lot of properties, but Oak Shade is one of my favorites. One is the town—Ocean Springs is a picturesque Mississippi Gulf Coast community full of galleries, restaurants and funky stores. Oak Shade itself is within easy walking distance of the downtown and just two blocks from the white sand beaches of the Gulf. Its rooms are spacious, immaculately kept, and tastefully decorated. Best of all is the hospitality of the owner, who is warm and welcoming without being overwhelming or intrusive like some B & B and inn owners can be. Oak Shade is a true gem!
Oak Shade is perfectly located. Easy walking to downtown Ocean Springs’ galleries, shops, museums, restaurants and entertainment. Walk, jog, run along the beach and marina just a city block south. Location is important, but what makes Oak Shade special is its owner. She has developed a quiet home property you want to settle into and relax. Ocean Springs is not exactly in the middle of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but if you want to explore and return each day to tranquility and a caring landlord who will help in any way to make your visit more interesting or special Oak Shade is for you. This is our third stay at Oak Shade in nineteen months and it will always be our “Home Away From Home” regardless of what we plan to do in the area.
